The Happy Diamond

This activity is connected to the topic of family, relationships, happiness and personal fulfillment.
I start the class with a short discussion, asking the students what makes them happy. They are always eager to talk about their priorities and most important people and things in their lives.

Then, I divide them in groups of 4 and give each group a list of words, written on little sheets of paper. They have to order the words in importance and the questions is, "What makes me happy?" It can be difficult for them to agree on the order of the words but usually everything is fine. One additional requirement is that they have to order the words in the shape of a diamond, the most important - on top, the least important - at the bottom.

There is one extra word, which the students should put in the middle of the diamond, signifying they do not need this thing to be happy.

After the diamonds of the groups are ready, all the groups have to make the diamond of the class, which usually is quite challenging but sooner or later, they agree on the sequence.
