I found this amazing 5-minute activity on the net (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/496099715176946460/). All my students definitely like it. It is so motivating to see a whole class being focused on a classroom activity. These worksheets are really helpful to me in trying to start or end my class with an entertaining task. It involves thinking, it builds up the team spirit of the groups and is fun at the same time. I usually tell my students we are going to have a competition and the different groups compete with each other. The group,which is the first in filling up all the blanks have 3 points in addition; the second - 2 additional points and the third - 1. Then we go through the answers and discuss them. Of course there is a winner.
I used this activity only as the first stage of a communicatively-oriented lesson. I choose three of the words, or which is better, let each students choose three of the words their group has used to fill in the blanks. Then, I ask them to make a sentence, which makes sense, using these 3 words. Then they choose other 3 words and write a continuation to the previous sentence. The students do this 4 times. So far, they have a story of 4 sentences, usually quite long. Then, I ask them to go to check the worksheets of the other groups and choose 3 words that their group has not included in their worksheet. After they have the last set of 3 words ready, they write the ending of the story.
Usually the story writing process takes 20-25 words. The rest of the class is used to enjoy the wonderful stories the students have written!!!
