The Winner Takes It All

If I ask my students what they like doing, most of them will say, "Listening to music". Students' preferences, hobbies and interests are a great area to use in motivating them to do some work at school. They usually hate listening comprehension tasks, so I decided to use some songs as a listening comprehension activity. 

There are some requirements, though, for the song. It should be slow- or medium-paced and not known by the students. This sometimes means they will definitely not like the song and murmur in class. But sometimes this activity does a great job. 

I give each student a list of words and while they listen to the song, they have to circle the ones they hear. It only sounds easy. The students have to pay close attention to word forms, which makes the task difficult. 

I chose ABBA, my generation knows all their songs by heart, by my students have not heard most of the songs. The song itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92cwKCU8Z5c.
